Dental Implants
At Star Dental we use the Imtec Mini Dental System. The implant itself is an ultra small titanium alloy screw. Under a local anaesthetic this screw is inserted directly into the gum tissue and into the bone underneath in one convenient, pain free appointment. Unlike the implants of the past the Imtec implant does not require the dentist to cut open the gum tissue and do minor surgery, which to the patient means less recovery time and less chance of infection. Mini implants are an ideal way to replace a single tooth or several teeth on both the upper and lower arches. They are ideal for patients wearing full upper and lower dentures, as the implant gives extra retention and stability to the denture allowing the patient the freedom to eat anything they choose.
As the mini implant is minimally invasive and has a quick recovery time the patient can even chew gently the next day. Case failures involving mini implants are extremely rare although, it must be recognised that all implant systems as well as naturel teeth are subject to a potential failure. The risk of these procedures not being a success is due mainly to naturel causes which includes: osteoporosis, poor oral hygiene, wear and tear attrition, poor health and heavy stressful biting habits. Therefore, follow up dental visits and regular maintenance is required.
