COSMETIC DENTISTRY
A smile is a curve that sets everything straight!
We believe that you can have a better life through cosmetic care. We have seen how more attractive smiles have dramatically improved a patients self image. They feel better and smile more. Cosmetic dentistry can fix a multitude of concerns, including old or discoloured teeth; teeth that have had the nerve removed and have changed in colour or even teeth with a narrow or pointy appearance. The entire contour and shade of the teeth can be dramatically altered using porcelain crowns and veneers.
A crown can be made from porcelain fused to metal or in some cases the metal is eliminated and it is solely made of porcelain. It serves to restore the form and or aesthetics of the tooth. Porcelain is easy to clean and tends to be resistant to staining.
The main reasons a patient would be recommended to have a crown would be:
- Preserve existing tooth structure
- Improve appearance
- Prevent stress on other teeth
- Maintain a natural bite
- Improve chewing efficiency
A veneer is a thin covering of porcelain that is cemented onto the front surface of tooth like a false fingernail. It is an ideal aesthetic procedure for a patient that has large gaps between their front teeth or discoloured teeth. A veneer is custom made in a laboratory to cement onto your existing teeth but looks completely natural. It is an ideal method of achieving the ‘Hollywood smile’.
If a patient needs to replace a missing tooth and that missing tooth has an opposing tooth on either side of it, our recommendation would be a bridge (or alternatively an implant). A bridge consists of two crowns on the opposing teeth with a fake tooth supported in the middle to fill the gap. A bridge can replace more than one tooth if needed but the more teeth a bridge replaces the more pressure is placed on the teeth holding it. This is a very aesthetically pleasing way of replacing a missing tooth.
